Prosperity Brownies is run by husband and wife team Paul & Jane Hatcher. In 2005, Jane was juggling a family of three young children and two part time jobs and wondered how she could make more money. Jane's friends were always saying how fabulous her brownies tasted, and she wondered if she could earn more money and take more control over her life by baking brownies and selling them to local mums? Inspired and empowered by some ancient truths from the Old Testament concerning prosperity, Jane realised that if she could make a brownies business work, she could become a vehicle for prosperity and positive change in the lives of abused children.

Jane and Paul sat down at the family dining table and discussed the idea of baking and selling chocolate brownies. Jane would be in charge of Production while Paul would look after Sales & Marketing, Operations. (Or put another way, Jane would make sure the brownies are fabulously delicious and Paul would make sure they're eaten by as many people as possible!) Three months later Prosperity Brownies was born.

The initial idea was to sell brownies to other mums at the school gates, but when a friend mentioned a local tea room owner who was interested, we took some samples and nervously came home wondering what the reaction would be. Later on the phone we were thrilled to hear "we think they're bloody marvellous, and we'll have forty of 'em tomorrow!"

We felt extremely encouraged, and every Saturday, we'd pack the children into the car with a whole bag of samples and go into Brighton & Hove and talking to prospective customers. Pretty soon, we had orders from over ten cafes and delis!

Jane started the business using her trusted Kenwood Chef that someone had given her a couple of years before, and for a long time, it was the only equipment needed. Once a week, on baking day, the entire house would fill up with trays of mix, ready to go into the tiny oven, hot trays cooling down and children waiting to go out for dinner as there was no space to prepare, let alone eat any home-cooked food!

A year later the demand for our yummy brownies had outgrown our small house and we needed to move into a bigger place if the business was going to move forward. We found a local baker who had some spare space and arranged to use his unit two days a week. Suddenly we could go from baking twelve brownies in a tray to sixty, using a bigger mixer, bigger trays and a giant oven. It was a pivotal moment and we thought we were in Jurassic Park, everything was so much bigger than in our house!!

From the very beginning, the encouragement of both friends and family, upon tasting the brownies, has played a big part in starting the business. There's no doubt about it, the recipe is one of real, genuine quality. With the unique combination of a squidgy bottom and slightly crunchy top, Prosperity Brownies are extremely popular, with both adults and children.

We focus on making a single product…that we think is the best in the market place, and many of our customers have called it 'the best chocolate brownie they've ever tasted! We believe that by keeping the ingredients natural, we can offer the unique quality of taste is what sets our brownies apart. The only additives we use are the raising agents in our flour, and we don't use any artificial colouring or preservatives. As such, we make an exquisite chocolate brownie that will delight your taste buds without polluting your insides!

Jane's favourite is Dark Chocolate Chunks & Raspberries because of the moist texture that the fruit adds to the brownie and the richness of the dark chocolate works really well in the sweet surroundings!

Paul's favourite is the Mixed berries & white chocolate chunks, the sheer fusion of the mixed berries with the white chocolate brings genuine pleasure...especially when warm out of the oven!

We make a variety of delicious flavours with big chocolate chunks and real fruit, including Milk Chocolate Chunks, White Chocolate Chunks, Dark Chocolate Chunks & Raspberries, Mixed, Berries & White Chocolate Chunks, Original Brownie, Cranberries & White Chocolate Chunks, and we have introduced a Gluten Free brownie too.

As to the future, while we have started from small beginnings, we have big ambitions and one day we'd like to open a retail arm of the business which will sell not just brownies and flapjacks but other exciting products also and be a place where people can come and enjoy a truly unique atmosphere of a warm welcome, culinary pleasure and nutritional health.

For us, Prosperity Brownies is simply a means to an end. We are deeply saddened and moved by the devastating amounts of child abuse that takes place on our planet and feel compelled to DO SOMETHING to prevent it in any way that we can. We realised that Money is a powerful tool for good when there's a good plan behind it's uses, so starting the business became our driving force and commitment to do what we can to make a difference in the lives of children at risk worldwide. Through Prosperity Brownies, we support children's charities that genuinely change the lives of children in need. VIVA & GLOBAL COMPASSION each use 5% of our profits to help children all over the world, in a wide variety of tragic situations.
